Speaking part one

Length: 4 - 5 minutes

Structure:

Introductions (30s):

The examiner tells you their name and asks you for your full name.

The examiner may ask what to call you, and/or where you are from.

The examiner checks your identification.

Interview (4 minutes 30 seconds):

The examiner chooses one of the possible topics from the first two options; what you do (work/study) or where you live/ come from.

The examiner chooses two other topics from a list of 13 topics relating to personal experience.

How should I answer the questions?

Introduction:

Short correct answers. You do not need to explain your name or spell it out. The examiner will stop you if you do this.

Make sure you have the correct identification with you.

Interview:

Many recommend amount of time or number of sentences. This sounds unnatural to me. Yu won't know how much time you are speaking for, and it is awkward to count sentences as you speak.

Do not give one word or very short answers.

Give some detail to go with your answer but do not go beyond the question.

If you are speaking for too long, the examiner will politely stop you.
