Comparing Data
For both dynamic and static tasks, it is important to be able to make relevant comparisons.
Using "than":
Structure: [Subject/Thing 1] + [verb] + [comparative adjective] + "than" + [Subject/Thing 2].
Example: Cats are more independent than dogs.
Using "as...as":
Structure: [Subject/Thing 1] + "as" + [adjective/adverb] + "as" + [Subject/Thing 2].
Example: She is as tall as her brother.
Using "not as...as" or "less...than":
Structure: [Subject/Thing 1] + "not as" + [adjective/adverb] + "as" + [Subject/Thing 2].
Example: This book is not as interesting as the one I read last week.
Superlatives:
Structure: [Subject/Thing] + [verb] + [the] + [superlative adjective] + [noun].
Example: Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world.
Comparative adjectives and adverbs:
Structure: [Subject/Thing] + [verb] + [comparative adjective/adverb] + [than] + [Subject/Thing].
Example: He runs faster than his sister.
Using "more" and "less" with nouns:
Structure: [Subject/Thing 1] + "is more/less" + [noun] + "than" + [Subject/Thing 2].
Example: John has more books than Mary.
Using "the same...as":
Structure: [Subject/Thing 1] + "is the same" + [adjective/noun] + "as" + [Subject/Thing 2].
Example: This dress is the same color as mine.
Using "rather"/"quite"/"much"/"far" for emphasis:
Structure: [Subject/Thing] + [verb] + "rather/quite/much/far" + [comparative adjective/adverb] + [than] + [Subject/Thing].
Example: She's quite taller than her classmates.
Comparing using "different from" or "different than":
Structure: [Subject/Thing 1] + "is different from/than" + [Subject/Thing 2].
Example: His approach is different from mine.
Comparing quantities or amounts:
Structure: [Subject/Thing 1] + "has" + [comparative adjective] + [noun] + "than" + [Subject/Thing 2].
Example: The first box has more chocolates than the second one.
Using "by far" for a significant difference:
Structure: [Subject/Thing] + [verb] + [comparative adjective/adverb] + "by far" + [than] + [Subject/Thing].
Example: She is by far the best player on the team.
